Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts Night Nine Round-Up
The 2010 Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts sees the world’s best eight darts players battling for £400,000 prize money over the course of four months at sold-out arena venues around the UK.
Screened live on Sky Sports in High Definition, Premier League Darts sees the eight players, led by reigning champion James Wade and 15-time World Champion Phil Taylor, face each other twice in a 14-night league phase before the top four battle for the £125,000 first prize.
The short format of the tournament, with games over the best of 14 legs, guarantees excitement and drama for fans around the UK, with nights held in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland expected to attract over 80,000 fans.
The 2010 Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts began at The O2 in London and returns to the capital for the play-offs at the Wembley Arena on Sunday May 23.
The tournament welcomes back two players to the field with previous Premier League Darts experience this season, Ronnie Baxter and Adrian Lewis, while Australian Simon Whitlock makes his debut as a Sky Sports Wildcard after reaching the final of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship in January.
That trio join reigning champion James Wade, 15-time World Champion Phil Taylor, five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld and two former Premier League Darts finalists, Terry Jenkins and Mervyn King, in competing for the £400,000 prize fund.
Alongside title sponsors Whyte & Mackay, the PDC are delighted to welcome Sky Bet as official bookmaker for the 2010 Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts.
Additionally, a partnership with the Everyman Male Cancer Campaign sees a series of t-shirts – where players re-create famous music album imagery and slogans, including the top six players re-creating Madness’ iconic ‘One Step Beyond’ pose and ‘Choose Darts’ t-shirts – on sale at every venue to raise funds for the charity.
